These are just a sample of things we’ve heard when event attendees first enter a room where Burr “Buddy” Rasmussen has been skillfully creating his latest work of art. That’s because Buddy’s medium is ice. And in his hands, simple frozen water is transformed into something exciting, exceptional, and almost impossible to believe it exists!

Our resident ice sculptor of many years, Buddy has taken his creativity to thousands of venues across the globe, turning 300-pound blocks of ice into true masterpieces.

From 3D corporate logo displays for conventions to functional, decorative installations at wedding receptions or galas, his ice sculptures don’t just capture everyone’s attention. They’ve also garnered multiple industry awards at recognized competitions – including live action “ice fights,” which is something he’s been able to incorporate as an interactive component in Illusions events too!

Buddy’s path to his artistry following culinary school actually started in the kitchens of The RK Group where he discovered what would be his true passion. And for 25+ years, he’s added even more memorability to every event at which his work appears.

His artistic range includes sculptures from large to small, like racecars, locomotives, or entire cityscapes, as well as equally impressive items such as beverage mugs that take frosty-cold to a whole new level.

With a homebase of San Antonio, Buddy remains undaunted by challenging environmental conditions. “I’ve carved ice in all types of settings, whether that’s during a Texas summer or in frigid temperatures where a lot of national and world competitions take place. As long as I have my hand tools (and my chainsaw!), we’re good to go. And I have the advantage of having done this long enough that I feel totally confident about meeting any schedule or event agenda.”
